Events Officer

Here's some blurb about the role of External Events Co-ordinator:

1. It's my responsibility to organise various skills workshops throughout the academic year.

These workshops are open to all members of the New Theatre, so it's a nice opportunity for everyone to get involved and socialise as well as to learn something new and hopefully enjoy improving their knowledge of various aspects of the theatre. These workshops are normally led by a skilled practitioner and, individually, they will cover a specific aspect of acting technique or technical expertise.

2. It's also my responsibility to liaise with local theatres (such as the Lakeside Theatre on campus) to organise external performances.

This means that one of the plays you might see at the New Theatre will be staged in a different, often more professionally acknowledged theatre. This is a great opportunity to raise the profile of the theatre and to work in a bona fide professional environment to stage a play. We currently have a link with the Lakeside, who are keen to allocate us an annual performance slot. I am currently hoping to build up better working links with other local theatres also.

3. My final official responsibility is to organise theatre trips and the like.

If there is a particularly exciting production or something that another member is involved with, it will be my role to organise a trip to see it for all of the members who wish to attend, and to hopefully negotiate some sort of special group rate with the venue in question. This is also an activity open to all of the members, so my role is particularly important to helping the involvement of those who are not involved in plays during the year. In this respect, I am most closely linked with the Social Secretary.

It is in my interest as External Events Co-ordinator to keep close links with local theatres, and to this end, I have negotiated a poster-swap system with Nottingham Playhouse and hope to make contact with further theatres in the near future.
