High above a precipice, screeching seagulls and howling winds threaten to ruin Nick and Flora’s romantic break from city life. However, nothing can prepare them for the earth-shattering revelations of a mysterious visitor. Forced into a brutal game of cat and mouse, Flora realises that this lonely seaside town holds the key to Nick’s chilling past. Can they survive the terrifying truth that emerges, or will it push them over the edge?

From the award-winning Nottingham New Theatre comes The Retreat, a tense and compelling piece of new writing that gives a powerful, character driven insight into the devastating consequences of an isolated upbringing in a dead end community, where delinquent youth culture reigns and ‘tomorrow’ is a myth. The performance probes the dark corners of human nature, modern relationships and the destruction that a reckless past can inflict on the present and the future.

Extract of 4 star review from Broadway Baby:
“The young cast handle the intensity of the roles they have with commendable conviction. All four are very believable. [...] The roles were demanding, and Jenni Herzberg can be commended for a well and tightly written drama. Recommended if you want something a bit meatier than many Fringe offerings.”
