Technically Flawless

The Tech Crew plays an integral role in the running of the New Theatre, and we have the potential to turn any average show into an epic masterpiece. The lighting box and storeroom have been sorted and cleaned over the summer, so we are ready to launch ourselves straight into the new season this semester.

Being involved with the tech side of a production is a great way to get involved with the New Theatre – we know that there are only a limited number of acting roles each semester, and being involved with tech is a great way to be a part of the thrill and excitement of putting on a show. There is no need for you to have prior experience with anything technical – we can provide all the training and support you could ever need. To that end there will be safety, lighting and sound workshops during this semester to get everyone up to scratch.

Tech gives you an opportunity to learn a new skill and be really creative as well. You get to liaise with the director, the actors and the set building team in order to create a spectacular production and we have a lot of fun along the way.

As Technical Director it is my job to organise all the technical requirements for each production. That includes lighting, sound and stage management. I will be around to provide you with all the support you need, but once you are involved with a production the lighting box is yours. You can have free reign over the design and set up of the rig, and can help bring a production to life. I’d like to get as many people involved as possible so that we build up an awesome tech crew over the semester, so please come and find me at the AGM (Fu!), or get in touch at tech@newtheatre.org.uk!
