About this site:

General:

This site is the official home of the Nottingham University New Theatre, one of only two completely student-run theatres in the country.

Coding and Design:

www.newtheatre.org.uk is designed by hand, and conforms to current specifications for (X)HTML and CSS. The code is written in Crimson Editor (for Windows) and Text Wrangler (for Mac). The FTPs (File Transfer Protocols) are FileZilla (for Windows) and Cyber Duck (for Mac). The site is hosted by Pair Networks in Pennsylvania.

W3C Validation:

www.newtheatre.org.uk validates fully when tested by the World Wide Web Consortium. This means that it is standards compliant.

Valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional

Valid CSS!
Problems:

If you are having difficulty viewing this site, you are probably using an out of date browser. The New Theatre recommends Mozilla Firefox.

Please send an e-mail to our Web Master if you have any problems viewing the site: webmaster@newtheatre.org.uk

Upgrade:

The site has recently received an upgrade: it now harnesses the awesome power of WordPress. WordPress is revolutionary blogging software. Although newtheatre.org.uk is not a blog, it is WordPress' lightweight code structure, and its ability to expand indefinitely using Plugins that has prompted our Web Designer to install it behind the site. Both the Photo Gallery and the Message Boards utilise WordPress plugins.

Another feature that the upgrade has enabled is the registration and login process. Previously our external Message Board's flanks were wide open to spam attackers, but now the site insists that the user login before posting comments. Malicious registrants can be deleted very easily, and the forums can be moderated.

Thanks to the registration process, it is now much easier to join the New Theatre Mailing List. Previously you had to send an e-mail, or ask a member of the committee (who might or might not forget!), whereas now, if you register, you will automatically be added to the New Theatre Mailing List. To opt out of the Mailing List, please send an e-mail to secretary@newtheatre.org.uk

WordPress Reloaded

www.newtheatre.org.uk recently had another installation of WordPress added to it behind the scenes. This means that we can have the Review section and a posting system on the homepage. Before, to post a News Story you had to have a decent knowledge of (X)HTML code and access to an FTP. Now, the entire Committee are set as Admins, and Wordpress is very user friendly. Any one on the Committee can now post bulletins. We can even do it by e-mail!

Photo Gallery

Anyone can upload photos to the photo gallery. To do so, visit Flickr.com. Sign in using Yahoo (there are two options) with username: 'thenewtheatre' and password: 'rocksmyworld'. You can create 'Sets' which will then display on our Gallery pages as an album. To upload photos, follow the instructions provided by Flickr. It is very easy! Please ensure that all the photos you upload are placed into the relevant Set: if there isn't a Set for the photo(s) you're uploading, create a new one! It takes a few minutes for newtheatre.org.uk to display the new photos once they've been uploaded to Flickr.

All photos uploaded to Flickr will be displayed at random on every page of the site, as well as in the Gallery.

Coming Up @ New Theatre

A Perfect Ganesh

4th - 7th June

The pilgrimage tradition is turned on its head in this spectacular production as two jaded American women take a trip to India. Plagued by their pasts, Katherine Brynne and Margaret Civil travel the length and breath of the country looking to 'heal' their souls. In their adventures, they are accompanied by none other than the elephant-headed God, Ganesh! Fluid in his guises, he appears before them in different forms-from a Japanese tourist to a leper-until a breathtaking release arrives for both women at his hands.

Doors 7.15pm
