After a long and tense day, the casting process has drawn to a close. We wanted to send a big congratulations to everyone who has received a part in the season and commiserations to all that didn’t.

If you’re looking for other ways you can get involved in the season you have come to the right place!

Starting literally tomorrow (Monday 6th):

There is a Stage Management workshop from 4.30-5.30pm (FB page = STAGE MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP)

Tuesday 7th there is a Tech workshop 1-2pm (FB page = New Theatre techie training!).

Then a Workshop workshop teaching how to build a set from 2-3pm (FB page = New Theatre Workshop (Workshop)).

Then there will be a Set Design workshop from 3-4pm.

All of these workshops will be held in the theatre and you are invited along to every single one! It’s the perfect way to get heavily involved and all areas are incredibly fun to be involved in!

Unfortunately due to all the snow, tonight’s performance of Becoming a Jackal at 8pm has been postponed BUT the show on Tuesday will still go ahead. Keep an eye out for a new date to be posted for their second show!

Also, get yourselves down to the theatre this week to see the Improv show Monday-Thursday at 7.30pm (Thurs Matinee 2.30pm).

Lots of snow based love,

Your NT Committee x

AN IDEAL HUSBAND

…not literally…

They are bringing you the play by Oscar Wilde though!

Sir Robert Chiltern is an upstanding man, a pillar of the community and most importantly, has always been an ideal husband. But when an old school enemy of his wife attempts to blackmail him, his seemingly perfect life is thrown into chaos. With only his closest friend, the foppish bachelor Lord Goring, to help, he must strive to overcome the folly of his youth without ever allowing his wife to find out that he may be any less than ideal.Alongside a supporting cast that includes his dreamy sister Mabel, and a London society filled with dowdies and dandies, it would be wise for Sir Robert to remember that “there is something about success that is a little unscrupulous, something about ambition that is unscrupulous always.”

Make sure you come along as a perfect revision break!

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WEEK’S SHOW RUNS FROM TUESDAY TO FRIDAY WITH A FRIDAY MATINEE.

An energetic theatrical free-for-all to warm you up this winter. Let’s end the term with a bang with…

ROSENCRANTZ & GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD
by Tom Stoppard

Trapped in a Shakespeare play they really don’t want to be in, with no memory of events up until now, two of life’s ‘little people’ have been left with all questions and no answers. Can they face up to the challenge and throw fate off their backs, or is this really curtains for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern?

Woven around the plot of ‘Hamlet’, with an added sprinkling of seedy cross-dressing amateur thespians for good measure, Stoppard’s absurdist tragicomedy is an absorbing production that will intrigue and entertain in equal measure.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare

Four lovers, six amateur actors and a gathering of spirits move through a wild forest one night. Around them nature itself is turned on its head as the King and Queen of the Fairies face-off. The moon watches on.

Shakespeare’s much-loved comedy is given new life in this immersive production in the round. Dark, delightful and unmissable.

Plump up your pillows, throw on your nightie and get nice and snug underneath the covers, it’s time for…

bed
by Jim Cartwright

Ever had trouble sleeping?

From the mind of one of Britain’s greatest contemporary playwrights comes the tale of seven elderly people and their bed. Minds bursting at the seams with the most terrifying memories and the most wonderful dreams, getting some shuteye in this place in not going to be easy.

As much as they may wish to relive or even forget their pasts, all they want to do is go to sleep. But that head on the shelf has other ideas…

Audience members are encouraged to attend performances in pyjamas.

Next up the New Theatre brings you Shakespeare at his bloody-curdling best. I hear whisperings of…

Macbeth

A story of greed, ambition, desire and murder. The monotony of the 21st century office is soon disturbed as an ambitious Macbeth usurps and assassinates in his struggle for boardroom supremacy. Spurred on by encounters with the superstitious staff and the whispers of his ruthless wife, the established order is plunged into unknown chaos. This contemporary performance fuses modernity with the original text to present Shakespeare’s classic reinvented.

THE HOTHOUSE @ New Theatre

At once fantastically dark and hilarious, ‘The Hothouse’ by Harold Pinter takes place in a Sanatorium overseen by a shadowy organisation called the Ministry. Shown only from the point of view of the staff, Pinter’s sharp intelligence highlights the ridiculousness of arbitrary authority and explores the corrupting influence of ultimate power over another human being.
