Elections 2009

Nominations are now open for the New Theatre committee elections. Being on the committee is a fantastic opportunity not just to develop yourself but also to give something back to New Theatre. Being on the committee is a lot of work and requires a great deal of dedication, but is extremely rewarding. “Up for it, are ya?”

To run for a position you need to nominate yourself by sending an email with your name and the position you wish to run for to; secretary@newtheatre.org.uk by 5pm on Tuesday 28th April.

Anyone can run for any position.

Information about all the roles up for grabs can be found here..

Presidential candidates must be proposed by one full member of the New Theatre who will speak for 1 minute prior to the presidential husting and who will not be asked questions. Presidential candidates may not be proposed by any current committee member.

The hustings & voting will take place at 1pm on Wednesday 29th April in the theatre.

Just a few cheeky little rules:

  • No candidate can be openly supported by any current committee member.
  • No campaigning is permitted outside of the hustings meeting and no campaigning other than hustings speeches is allowed in the hustings meeting.
  • The treasurer can’t be a final year student. (thats a really important one)
  • All candidates have 3 minutes to speak and then will answer questions from the floor.
  • Presidential candidates have 5 minutes to speak and then will answer questions from the floor.
  • Candidates for President & Treasurer may produce a paper handout to be given out at the hustings. New Theatre will organise the printing (black & white a4 only, this must be submitted by 5pm on April 28th).
  • All candidates should attend the hustings in person. If you have reasonable cause not to be able to attend then you may run for a position in absentia and the Secretary will read your speech (which you should submit by 5pm on April 28th.)
  • Candidates elected will take up office on the first day of the 09′-10′ academic year.

Thats the boring stuff out of the way.

If you’re just thinking of running, go for it, you never know… you might win- and the worse position you’ll be in if you don’t …is right back where you started, so there’s nothing to worry about. If your’re still not sure, have a chat with a current committee member and they can tell you loads about their position. All of their contact info is here.
