Bye Bye 2008

This is your official final round-up of 2008, a year which has seen New Theatre sparkling with success from Nottingham to Scarborough to Edinburgh. NT is big news. Everybody involved should be ecstatic with what we have achieved over the last 12 months and let’s push these successes through into 2009!

You all need to know these IMPORTANT DATES!

Sunday 25th January – Proposals meeting. This is where prospective directors meet at the theatre to outline their ideas for a play to the committee. It isn’t a job interview, we want to hear what you’ve got, so please do come along.

Wednesday 28th January – the AGM. This is super important for everyone to get along to. The semester’s programme will have been decided upon and it is your chance to listen to what the directors have got to say about their pieces. Tech sign-ups will take place there, as will AUDITION sign-ups, which will run for the next 4 days. Casting will happen on Sunday 1st February.

Sunday 8th February – Edinburgh proposals meeting. Get along to this if you have an idea for a play to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival during August. It will be highly competitive so the more the merrier. New Theatre usually takes up two official productions and can lend all manner of support to members who are taking up an independent project.

Please read the stuff above carefully. It really is rubbish when people forget these dates and miss great opportunities (Vogel). Most importantly – GET TO THE AGM!

Right let’s get our reflecti-on. Autumn 2008 has been an astoundingly successful semester. Thanks must go first and foremost to the casts and crew of each play. From directors to stage hands, the plays wouldn’t have been what they were without you. 9 great shows, 3 pieces of new writing from our members and five entries into NSDF. Fingers crossed!

Secondly, the tech crew: ever-present, never-sleeping, ferociously talented and superbly managed by the brilliant Phil “Fella” Geller. Ever the unsung heroes, you guys are an incredible bunch.

Lastly, to our President and my fellow committee members, who have sacrificed hours and hours to get shit happening. A special mention must go to Leopold Denny for some great parties and a heavyweight Ball.

So, it’s the end of an era… sorry, I mean semester – the distinction there being that we’ll all be back soon to continue making history on a daily basis.

New Theatre has been tucked in to bed by our very own Billy Vickers, after some stalwart cleaning/tidying work from James “Banana Man” Herbert, Angry McNamee and Barack Leventhall. Sweet dreams NT.

There only remain a few things to say:
1) Make sure you get to the AGM.
2) Invite a friend along to the AGM
3) Get said friend to sign up to the NT newsletter.
4) If you haven’t yet – Join us on Facebook
